The Contemporary Afro-Latin Percussion Ensemble provides the student the opportunity to study the structure, form, and function specific to certain contemporary musical genres of the Afro-Latin Diaspora. The ensemble will focus on musical styles from the Spanish speaking Caribbean and South America. Ensemble members will participate in group learning of the music appropriate to such contemporary styles/genres as Son, Cha-cha-cha, Mambo, Bolero, Bossa Nova, Samba and Latin Jazz. Looking for singers, percussionists, guitarists, keyboards, horns, strings, and bass.
Admittance into the Contemporary Afro-Latin Percussion Ensemble require either of the following:
- Completion of the Intro Ensemble (ENS120)
- Approval by the instructor
The criteria for approval require the following:
- Demonstration of basic Afro-Latin technique and
- Demonstrated familiarity with basic Afro-Latin rhythms and rhythmic sensibilities
