McNally Smith College of Music is now offering a fantastic opportunity for freshmen students to complete their Bachelor’s Degree in just 3 years! The Degree In Three program provides significant financial relief in housing, food, transportation and other costs of living, as well as eliminates tuition rate increases that typically occur each fall semester.
How Does It Work?
Degree In Three participants need a consistent fall and spring semester load of 16 credits, as well as a minimum of 12 credits during two summer sessions. For the summer, students can take 9 credits of study and still qualify for the continued tuition savings. (If you take the 9 credit option you will need to take 17 credits in fall and spring.) If you have questions on how the Degree In Three program impacts your financial aid, please contact the financial aid office.
What Are The Benefits?
The Degree In Three program saves a significant amount of money by:
- Eliminating 12 months of housing and food expenses, which could cost between $12,000 and $16,000 over the course of the degree program
- Freezing one year’s probable tuition rate increase, which can amount to over $1,000
- Allowing students to start their careers a full year sooner
What About Students Who Work Summers?
A Degree In Three participant’s savings will exceed what most students can make if they work during the summer. By staying in the program, students could save approximately $12,000 – $16,000 in overall costs. Traditional students would need to make (and save) approximately $6,000 to $8,000 each summer to equal this amount. While possible, most summer jobs don’t provide the opportunity to save this amount of money.
Is This Plan For Everyone?
Although Degree In Three is available for all enrolled students, it is important for anyone interested to meet with an academic advisor as soon as possible to determine if the program is a good match. The same academic standards apply to all of our degree students without exception, so Degree In Three participants will complete the same amount of coursework as those in the traditional four-year track. If you are eager to start your career, motivated to work hard, and excited to save money, then why wait? Talk to your academic advisor about the new Degree In Three!
