Afro-Caribbean Drum

The Beginning and Advanced Afro-Caribbean Drum Ensembles provide students the opportunity to study the drumming traditions of the Spanish-speaking Caribbean. Ensemble members participate in group learning of the traditional drumming appropriate to Afro-Caribbean styles and genres such as Bomba, Mozambique, Guaguancó, Bembé, Toque de Guiro, and Abacuá. The Afro-Caribbean Drum Ensemble is an introduction to the next level of concepts that are essential for the world music percussionist/drummer who desires to diversify his or her rhythmic repertoire and vocabulary.
