Dr. Jay Fuchs is a professional singer, piano player, composer, music director, author and bandleader. Jay holds a Ph.D. and M.A. degree in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. degree in Vocal Performance from Minnesota State University in Moorhead, MN. While at the University of Minnesota Jay studied composition with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Dominick Argento. He also created and directed the University of Minnesota Student Composers Alliance. Jay is very active as a performer of popular music, doing over 100 gigs each year. He leads the popular Twin Cities’ band Metro Jam and, along with Erin Schwab is a popular entertainer, singer and piano player, performing at a variety of popular venues. Jay is an avid composer, writing primarily vocal and choral music. Recently Jay started a publishing company called Doctor Jay’s Music, which publishes his two music theory books Doctor Jay’s Music Lessons and Music Fundamentals along with a variety of compositions. Jay served as a music consultant to the Science Museum of Minnesota on their exhibit “Wild Music”, which examines music in nature. In 2009 Jay was the music director of the local production of Power Balladz.
