DEBBIE DUNCAN AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN VOICE

The Debbie Duncan Award is a scholarship presented to either a vocal applicant at McNally Smith College who:

   1. best demonstrates his or her ambition to pursue a career in music
   2. exhibits strong abilities in voice
   3. has maintained a good academic record
   4. demonstrates financial need.

AwardThe scholarship is an award of $1,000 per semester for full-time attendance for the academic year ($2000 total).  Second semester renewal is automatic as long as the student achieves a grade point average of 3.0 for each semester's work and enrolls full-time during the academic year awarded.
Eligible ApplicantsAny vocal student who will be attending the 2008-2009 school year at McNally Smith College.
Eligible Criteria
Scholarship applicants must submit a McNally Smith College of Music scholarship application (available for download), official high school/college transcripts, an audition for admissions, and two letters of reference and/or faculty recommendations.
DeadlineApplications must be postmarked no later than March 1, 2008.
AcceptanceApplicants must be a current McNally Smith College vocal student, or have applied for admission by March 1, 2008.

Scholarship recipients may be expected to represent McNally Smith College in promoting music education at public and/or school-related events, as well as be a role model for other students.


About Debbie Duncan:

Debbie Duncan has always valued the importance of both of her careers - as a performer and music educator. One of the country's most respected Jazz vocalists, Debbie has opened for and/or performed with Herbie Hancock, Stephane Grapelli, Miles Davis, Bob Seger, Mitch Ryder, Bobby Watson, Mark Murphy, Marlena Shaw, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Joe Henderson, Jimmy McGriff, and John Hendricks to name a few.

Debbie moved to Minneapolis after 10 years working the LA nightclub circuit.  She has received numerous Minnesota Music Awards and was the first recipient of the "Perpetually Outstanding Performer" award. Debbie is a faculty member at McNally Smith College.
