In partnership with the Lowertown Guitar Festival (a FREE concert event taking place later that same day in Mears Park in downtown Saint Paul), McNally Smith College of Music is excited to host workshops during the Clash led by professional guitarists Greg Koch (Fender clinician) and Jacob Hanson (Mason Jennings, Halloween Alaska, Haley Bonar).

Nation Sack Greg Bio

Greg Koch has established himself as a masterful technician, accomplished clinician (for Fender) and general bad-ass guit-picker. Guitar virtuoso Steve Vai noted Koch’s six-string prowess and promptly signed signed him to his Favored Nations label in 2001. Tom Wheeler from Guitar Player magazine hailed him as “fiendishly talented” while other critics have called him everything from “a twisted guitar genius” to “the best kept secret in the guitar firmament.” Bringing together world-class chops and a humorous ability to articulate sounds and techniques with a genuine devotion to all things guitar, Koch has developed an exceptionally effective “edu-tainment”approach to conducting guitar clinics.

Jacob Hanson is an accomplished guitarist who has been seen and heard with a wide array of high-profile Minnesota artists, including Halloween Alaska, Mason Jennings, Solid Gold, Haley Bonar, The Pines, Actual Wolf, and a slew of side projects. In addition to dozens of studio recordings, he has toured both nationally and overseas. With a highly versatile style informed by blues, dub, ’50s pop and modern rock, Hanson is known for combining sturdy technique with a colorful palette of pedal-based effects to create inspired musical soundscapes.
