Explore the fascinating sounds of the legendary Quintet of the Hot Club of France (aka Hot Club). This unique group founded by gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli featured three acoustic guitars, string bass, and violin. Play their original compositions and creative arrangements of swing standards and gypsy tunes plus tap into contemporary repertoire. Led by string department head Randy Sabien who spent much time with Grappelli after meeting in 1975. Sabien formed a “Tribute to Stephane Grappelli” with bassist and Grappelli band alum Brian Torff and recorded a cd “Segue.”
HOT CLUB ENSEMBLE AUDITION INFO:
Be able to play the melody, provide an accompaniment appropriate for your instrument that follows the chord changes, and improvise a solo on the tune “Minor Swing” by Django Reinhardt. You may also be asked to sight read a chart.
