The annual Live at Five concert music series, featuring performances by renowned faculty members of McNally Smith College of Music, returns February 15 when Jennifer and Shon Parker will perform a variety of music in the McNally Smith Auditorium at 5:00 p.m. Both musicians are faculty of the college’s Voice Department. The event is free and open to the public.
As vocalists, arrangers and instrumentalists, the Parkers share a love of both music and education, and have sung with artists such as Roberta Flack, Melissa Manchester, Fred Hersch, Janis Siegel, and many others. As a performer, Jennifer leads the Jennifer Parker Quartet. She has enjoyed making music with numerous musical groups and special artists over the years including Jazz Northwest, Mark Levine, The Scovell-Sponcia Project, The Times, Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, Idaho-Washington Chorale, Frank Sinatra Tribute Band, Ziji Brazilian Jazz, Bay City Swing and Double Take.
A member of Gold Company, Shon has shared the stage with artists including Jennifer Barnes, Darmon Meader, Roger Treece and others. He served as assistant director to Gold Company’s sister group, Gold Company II, and recently has been performing with the Shon Parker Quintet and the Weedies.
Previous Live at Five events have included critically acclaimed songwriter Jeremy Messersmith and versatile guitarist Ric Olivia.
