Up-and-coming local bands recently entered Metromix Twin Cities’ SoundTown Showdown, a contest to join the already impressive lineup, which includes The Flaming Lips, The New Pornographers, DeVotchka, and others. Out of five finalists, two bands had strong ties to McNally Smith College of Music – and those two went on to win the contest, and will be performing at SoundTown in Somerset, Wisc., on August 19 and 20.
Ghostmouth and Rustpocket submitted videos of themselves performing live to Metromix, and were chosen in the first round of 13 bands, then narrowed to five finalists. Visitors voted on their favorite at the Metromix site, and at the end, Ghostmouth and Rustpocket emerged as the two winners!
The SoundTown lineup features over 30 groups, headlined by The Flaming Lips. Other notable bands scheduled to perform include The New Pornographers, DeVotchKa, Ghostland Observatory, Delta Spirit, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, Solid Gold, Cory Chisel & The Wandering Sons, Heiruspecs, Roma di Luna, and Pink Mink. View the full schedule here.
