The Hip-Hop Studies at McNally Smith College of Music is proud to present the first Open Mic on Wednesday October 19! The open mic session will be held on the McNally Smith campus in the 3rd floor Soundbite Café. All student performers and fans are invited to come share their talents with the world.
This event also marks the first day of the Minnesota Educators Conference (MEA) — so students can start their break off right with a performance! The Open Mic is age- and genre- inclusive, and performs of all styles are welcome — from rap and spoken word poetry to instrumental performers or songwriters. A top-notch backing band including faculty members Kevin Washington and Sean McPherson will be provided.
The Open Mic will also feature cameo sets from its two hosts, Mooks and Mike Dreams, two outstanding artists from the Twin Cities Spoken Word and Hip-Hop scene. The event will also feature mini-sets from current McNally Smith students.
The doors for this free event will open at 6 p.m., with performance slots opening at that time. Current McNally Smith student Ryland Sabien, a.k.a. Beak Nasty, will be the DJ for the event. The Open Mic will end at 9 p.m. If you have questions about performing please email firstname.lastname@example.org.Newer: Fall SoundCrawl on October 7 Features Marching Ensembles, New Orleans-Inspired Brass Band, Segways, and More!
