McNally Smith College of Music now offers a Bachelor of Science in Music (Music Producer) degree program. In today’s ultra-competitive music industry, successful music producers are well-rounded professionals who excel in a number of areas. McNally Smith’s new degree program provides students with the tools needed to join the ranks of the industry’s elite music producers. McNally Smith is one of the select few colleges in the nation offering a Bachelor of Science in Music degree.
The Bachelor of Science in Music (Music Producer) focuses on four areas of study:
•Technology – mastery of current recording technology, and how to apply it to musical situations, is essential in today’s high-tech studio environment.
•Business – the music producer is an entrepreneur who needs to be savvy in the ways of the recording industry’s business practices.
•General Education – knowledge is power, and the ability to think outside of one’s field benefits every professional in their career and in their life.
The degree is designed to be completed in four academic years, and qualifying past academic credits can be applied towards earning the degree.
McNally Smith’s state-of-the-art facilities provide all of the tools needed to get the most out of this new degree. The college’s unprecedented 12 recording studios and two 48-channel Solid State Logic Duality recording consoles are just a few examples of facilities that make the St. Paul campus one of a kind. The faculty of over 80 music professionals includes producers, engineers, performers and industry executives who have worked with some of music’s most legendary names.
All degree candidates will oversee an album recording project from start to finish, graduating with real-life experience as a music producer.
The new degree has received approval from the National Association of Schools of Music and the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.
