Three Summer Programs Keep the Music Hot at McNally Smith

“Your Future In Music” Summer Music Camp plus guitar and jazz workshops will be led by accomplished McNally Smith faculty members.

McNally Smith College of Music is offering three summertime opportunities to go deeper into the world of music with instruction from some of the experts. Located in downtown St. Paul and featuring award-winning faculty members, McNally Smith opens its doors to music lovers who are ready to take it to the next level. The Summer Guitar Workshop, the Summer Jazz Workshop and the “Your Future In Music” Summer Music Camp each offer intensive and exciting instruction over the course of one week.

July 28 – August 1: Summer Guitar Workshop.
Guitarists can experience life as a musician while receiving professional guitar training at McNally Smith. This 5-day workshop is specifically designed for 13 to 17 year-olds with an interest in both the educational and the performance side of the music industry. The Summer Guitar Workshop is an opportunity to  learn to read music for guitar, record in a professional studio, perform with a band, experience a variety of musical styles and perform in McNally Smith’s state-of-the-art auditorium. July 28 – August 2: Summer Jazz Workshop.
The six-day workshop is open to musicians of all skill levels, offering an immersion in jazz music and improvisation. Students will be instructed by members of the McNally Smith faculty and top musicians from the region, whose credits include Grammy-nominated recording work and touring experience with everyone from the Artie Shaw Orchestra to Prince to Steve Miller. Musicians in the areas of brass, woodwind, guitar, piano, bass, drums and vocals will all benefit from the Summer Jazz Workshop. Programming includes ensemble training, improvisational theory and technique, master classes, jazz history and more. The Summer Jazz Workshop culminates with a Student Concert in the McNally Smith Auditorium, which will be recorded for a CD. August 4 – 9: “Your Future in Music” 2008 Summer Music Camp. McNally Smith’s summer music camp is the place to be for students ages 15 to 19 who love music. This is a chance to get a snapshot of the music industry – straight from the experts – in one exciting week. Work with Grammy and industry award winners and experience McNally Smith’s state-of-the-art soundstage and lighting systems, recording facilities and multi-media classrooms. Camp days will consist of musical performances, music business presentations, an introduction to recording technology, creation of sound tracks, and much more. Dorm rooms are available with additional benefits included, such as counselors, meals and transportation. The registration deadline is July 15, so act now!
