Rising Twin Cities hip hop star MaLLy tapped to be Artist In Residence for MSCM 2012 MIX Workshop

It is with great excitement that McNally Smith College of Music announces rising Twin Cities hip hop star MaLLy as its 2012 MIX Workshop Artist in Residence! Since 2007, MaLLY — a 26-year-old South Minneapolis native — has steadily built a rock solid profile amidst a highly competitive local and national hip-hop scene, exuding an enviable combination of raw talent, entrepreneurial skills and an tireless work ethic. In short, he’s exactly the kind of artist the students at McNally Smith’s 2012 MIX Workshop can learn a thing or two (or three or four) from. MaLLy will be doing everything from imparting pro advice to ensembles, to conducting a masterclass, to giving a rousing live performance to close out what will be an epic and educational week.

MaLLy on mentoring (from a 2011 interview with Beholder Media):

“I enjoy mentoring and being an artist because I believe there is a level of freedom and passion you can apply to a song, a conversation with a student who is looking for guidance and wants to develop in their career as opposed to sitting at a desk. Moral of the story is: Find something you love and stay active in that field or occupation. I promise it will take you places you never imagined.”

NOTE: McNally Smith is STILL ACCEPTING STUDENTS for this one-of-a-kind experience. The MIX Workshop runs from Tuesday, August 21–Sunday, August 26.

More about MaLLy:

Though he’s been at it for seven years, MaLLy truly burst onto the scene following his incendiary performance at Soundset 2011 — after which, Atmosphere’s Slug performed sporting a MaLLy & The Sundance Kid (MaLLy’s cohort and DJ) T-Shirt. The duo’s newest offering, 2012’s The Last Great… is an emphatic declaration of MaLLy’s ever-ascending emcee prowess.
