McNally Smith College of Music is pleased to present its 7th Annual Vocal Jazz Festival on Saturday, March 7th — featuring special guest artists Five By Design. The Vocal Jazz Festival is a non-competitive event that offers high school vocal jazz groups from across the Upper Midwest the opportunity to perform for their peers, receive constructive critique from professional adjudicators, participate in workshops and record in McNally Smith’s top-flight studio complex.
Vocal Jazz Festival participants will be treated to a mid-day masterclass led by Minnesota-based vocal ensemble Five By Design — an internationally acclaimed quintet that has performed with hundreds of symphony orchestras throughout the U.S. and Canada over the last 25 years. The festival also features a closing performance from McNally Smith’s own award-winning Contemporary Vocal Ensemble.
“Our Vocal Jazz Festival is a fun, interactive and encouraging way for regional high school vocal groups to show off all their hard work,” says Festival Director Shon Parker. “It’s a fantastic opportunity for young artists to gain valuable experience on stage and in the studio, and to get critical feedback on their performances from professional musicians and educators — as well as from their peers.”
