McNally Smith College of Music announced today the schedule for its 2014 Summer Workshops, taking place on the school’s downtown St. Paul campus. Weeklong camps specializing in Voice, Guitar, Jazz and Hip-Hop are scheduled for June 26–July 1, while an immersive Music Industry eXperience (MIX) camp is scheduled for August 20–25.
For over a decade, McNally Smith College of Music’s Summer Workshops have provided teenage musicians (age 13 and up) the opportunity to pursue their passion and hone their talent. Vocal, Guitar, Jazz and Hip-Hop workshop attendees participate in an intensive one-week study with McNally Smith’s industry-seasoned faculty and gain real world, hands-on experience rehearsing with fellow musicians, performing live on stage and recording in McNally Smith’s top-flight studio complex. All campers enjoy access to the same professional-grade facilities available to McNally Smith’s full-time students.
MIX workshop attendees pick a focus — Music Production and Recording Technology, Music Performance or Music Business — and work in integrated industry teams that collaborate to perform, record, engineer and promote an album and concert; all in one action-packed week. MIX workshop attendees learn directly from industry professionals making their living in the music business today, such as tour managers, private lesson instructors, music licensing specialists and radio station managers. Campers also get the chance to work with special guest artists-in-residence like The Chalice, Howler, Mally, No Bird Sing and Maria Isa.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for teenage musicians and music lovers spend an entire week surrounded by like-minded peers and talented industry professionals,” says Summer Programs Coordinator Scott Agster. “Whether they’re hobbyists or they’re interested in perusing any of the many contemporary careers in today’s music industry, McNally Smith’s Summer Workshops provide campers with the insights, experiences and skills necessary to take the next steps in their musical lives.”
