McNally Smith and School Of Rock Unite for Camp Interstellar Summer Workshop

McNally Smith College of Music’s summer programming continues next week with a visit from the School of Rock — one of the national leaders in music education.

School of Rock (SOR)— the country’s largest afterschool music program, educating nearly 8,000 students aged 8–18 in over 100 locations — will be hosting Camp Interstellar, a residential summer camp on McNally Smith’s campus from July 28–August 4. Camp Interstellar brings the brightest and best players from across SOR’s vast national network to McNally Smith for a true superstar music performance experience.

Visiting SOR students will be staying in McNally Smith’s Residence Hall and will receive transportation, delicious meals, fun and educational field trips, and access to our rooms and resources. In addition, each SOR student will receive marquee instruction from McNally faculty and School of Rock Instructors (featuring McNally Smith alum Dustin Kiel and former McNally Smith instructor/alum Joe Maffei) throughout the week, including audition preparation guidelines from McNally Smith performance department heads, masterclasses, a business tutorial, and more.

Students will be grouped into ensembles for an end-of-week concert performance in the McNally Smith auditorium on Saturday, August 4. Each SOR ensemble will also have the opportunity to record in our professional Record Lab studios during the week.

This fantastic opportunity was developed thanks in part to McNally Smith’s long history with the Twin Cities’ SOR franchise, which in turn cultivated a strong relationship between SOR’s national leaders — Vice-President Mark Biondi and Director of Franchise Operations Stephanie Scianna  — and McNally Smith Provost Cliff Wittstruck and President Harry Chalmiers. Please make our new guests feel welcome throughout this amazing week of learning and rocking!
