McNally Smith’s Adam Levy Receives Accolade from Star Tribune, Wraps Honeydogs’ Tour, Set To Play MN Zoo

It’s been a busy summer for Adam Levy, assistant to McNally Smith College of Music President Harry Chalmiers. Levy’s longtime Minneapolis-based rock band, The Honeydogs, have just returned from a successful run of East Coast dates (check out Levy’s personal tour diary for the City Pages’ Gimmie Noise Blog), and are now gearing up to play this Saturday, July 28, at the The Weesner Family Amphitheater at the Minnesota Zoo with the BoDeans, featuring Levy’s brother (and ex-Honeydog) Noah on drums.

The summer shows have been in support of Levy and the Honeydogs’ latest record, “What Comes After,” which was released in March to glowing reviews. The album recently made the Star Tribune’s “Best local albums of the year (so far)” list, wherein music critic Chris Riemenschneider writes:

“There’s a warm, security-blanket vibe to this veteran Americana rock band’s 10th album — not just in the comfort level the musicians enjoy after so many years together, but also from the solace that frontman Adam Levy seemed to take in writing it. Faced with his son’s mental illness and other familial lows and highs, he wrote a surprisingly hopeful, loving and at times spiritual record, which ranges in tone from the horn-bopping single “Aubben” and the twangy post-divorce ditty “Blood Is Blood” to the orchestrated, big-picture title track.”
