City Pages’ Reed Fischer Kicks Off 2013 Speakeasy Series

Friday, January 18 marks McNally Smith’s inaugural 2013 Speakeasy get together, featuring City Pages‘ music editor Reed Fischer as guest deejay! Few folks possess greater intimate knowledge of the Twin Cities music scene as Fischer, and he’s a real nice guy to boot, so come on down and say hello! Anyone and everyone is invited to the Sound Bite Cafe (third floor of main MSCM building) between 4 and 6 p.m. for complimentary coffee and wine, good company, and killer tunes from Fischer’s expansive music collection. Spread the word and help make the Speakeasy the place to be for the Twin Cities arts community this spring!

About Reed Fischer:

Reed Fischer knows a thing or two about good music. He is, after all, the Music Editor at City Pages and overseer of Gimmie Noise—the popular Twin Cities alt weekly and its online music blog. In addition to possessing stellar wordsmithery and impeccable taste in tunes, he wields serious chops in composing a killer playlist, due to his time spent in the trenches as both wedding DJ and college radio jock. Fischer has also worked as the music editor of New Times Broward-Palm Beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Over the past two years he helped the Broward paper create their own music blog, County Grind, which won a third place AltWeekly award for best music blog this year. He received a master’s in journalism from the University of Missouri, and has written for Rolling Stone, Village Voice, Alternative Press, CMJ, and Paste. Gain invaluable insight into what this top Twin Cities tastemaker is currently digging on by hitting up the first Speakeasy of 2013.

About the Speakeasy Series:

McNally Smith College of Music is opening its doors and inviting the public to its gorgeous downtown St. Paul campus to take part in the brand new Speakeasy Series—four casual gatherings geared towards bringing the Twin Cities arts community a little bit closer together. Held on a Friday afternoon during each of the next four months, the Speakeasy Series boasts an eclectic mix of guest DJs from the Twin Cities arts community. In addition to impeccable playlists from these fantastic guests, Speakeasy attendees will be treated to complimentary coffee and wine in a laid back and hip environment. So grab a friend and come down, unwind and spend some quality time with your creative-minded neighbors at the end of the workweek. Each Speakeasy takes place from 4-6PM on a Friday in McNally Smith’s own Soundbite Café, located on the third floor of the main campus building.
