Twin Cities Saxophone Day is once again coming to McNally Smith College of Music in 2012! Saturday, September 22, marks the sixth time McNally Smith has partnered with MacPhail Center for Music to present this fantastic event. Past performers/clinicians include Steve Slagle (2005), Jim Snidero (2006), Tim Ries (2007), Dennis DeBlasio (2008) and Dick Oatts (2010). This year’s highlights feature a workshop and concert by jazz great Bob Sheppard (Chick Corea, Steely Dan, Horace Silver), a clinic/concert from virtuoso James Romain (Minnesota Orchestra), Sax Day door prize drawings and a slew of new and vintage saxophones, mouthpieces, accessories and more!

10:00am – Mouthpiece Presentation
Master mouthpiece maker Theo Wanne will discuss the influence mouthpiece construction has on the saxophonist’s sound, playability and musicality (sponsored by the Schmitt Music Sax Shop).
11:30am – Jazz Clinic
Jazz great Bob Sheppard will give a workshop on his methodology on playing jazz saxophone and improvisation (sponsored by Schmitt Music and the Schmitt Music Sax Shop).
1:00 – Classical Clinic & Concert
Virtuoso James Romain will perform and discuss his approach to developing artistry from a classical saxophonist’s perspective (sponsored by Tenor Madness).
2:30 – Jazz Concert
