The Saturday Symposium: The McNally Smith Center for Progressive Media Studies presents a remarkable opportunity for attorneys, music professionals, and recent (or not-so-recent) graduates with music degrees to re-tune their careers, armed with next-generation industry tools and strategies, designed and taught by national music attorneys and industry leaders. About the Faculty
Ron Sobel recently joined McNally Smith as Chair of the Music Business department. An entertainment attorney and media executive, Mr. Sobel spent 14 years with ASCAP during which time he signed artists including Pearl Jam and Lenny Kravitz to ASCAP representation. His company North Star Media provides consulting services and artist representation while acquiring gold and platinum songwriter publishing catalogues. He has nationally published articles and a recently published book on New Media topics.
Steven Winogradsky is the president of The Winogradsky Company in North Hollywood, California with over twenty five years experience as an attorney in the music industry. Mr. Winogradsky has served as Director of Music Business Affairs for Hanna-Barbera Productions, Inc., Managing Director of Music, Legal & Business Affairs for MCA Home Entertainment, Director of Music Licensing and Administration for Universal Pictures and Universal Television and Vice President of Business Affairs for The Clearing House, Ltd. He was twice elected President of the California Copyright Conference and also served as President of The Association of Independent Music Publishers.
Whitney Shaw has been with McNally Smith College of Music since 2006. Ms. Shaw leads the new media efforts of the college including online presence and social media, website development and SEO. She has worked freelance with various bands. She is the Digital Communications Director at Stophouse, a Minneapolis based hip hop label, and continues working freelance with various bands. Whitney also teaches faculty and staff development classes at McNally Smith on Social Media and its integration in the classroom setting.
Chris Osgood is Vice President of Organizational Development at McNally Smith College of Music. As guitarist and singer in the fabled Suicide Commandos, Chris is a founding father of the Twin Cities punk music scene. Chris was Director of Artist Services at Springboard for the Arts for 18 years, where he consulted on professional development issues related to making a living as an artist. Chris also has extensive experience as a label executive and producer.
Harry Chalmiers is the President of McNally Smith College of Music. Prior to joining McNally Smith, Mr. Chalmiers spent eight years as the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Mr. Chalmiers also held office as the Executive Director of MacPhail Center for Music. He is an accomplished guitarist and music composer who holds a Batchelor’s Degree in Music Composition from Berklee College of Music and a Master’s Degree in Music Composition from the New England Conservatory of Music.
