McNally Smith College of Music invites you to a week of intensive jazz study with our nationally renowned faculty: July 24-29, 2007. You'll work with some of the most accomplished instructors in the region, together with talented students of all levels, at our college campus in downtown Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Course Description
Ensembles
Daily ensemble reading and improvisation for 90 minutes. Styles, grooves, and repertoire will be selected according to ensemble level and need.
I
mprovisational Theory and Strategies
Learn to create effective improvised solos through the study of chords, scales, "licks," and riffs, which can then be applied to tunes studied in ensemble class.
Master Classes
Group master classes meet with a specialist on the following instruments: trumpet, trombone, woodwinds, piano, bass, guitar, and drums.
Jazz History Symposium/Faculty Showcase
Study some of the most influential musicians in the history of jazz. Presentations alternate daily with staff live performances.
Finale Concert
McNally Smith Auditorium
Open to friends, family, and the general public, all ensembles perform the tunes they have studied all week. Light refreshments served. Perfomance is recorded live and CD copies are available to workshop participants for a nominal fee.
Enrollment is limited. Register early to assure participation.
