The McNally Smith Percussion Ensemble is 4-6 member ensemble that performs West African drum pieces, Stomp-inspired body percussion works, and more traditional Percussion Ensemble Literature. The ensemble members have also composed some of the groups’ repertoire. The MSCM Percussion Ensemble has collaborated in outreach/concert events with other similar groups from around the region.
- Students will sight-read several various rhythmic phrases on snare drum and/or multiple tom-toms, etc.
- Mallet keyboard experience is not required. However, a student could sight-read marimba or vibraphone parts if they do have mallet keyboard experience.
- Students will play hand-drumming phrases and patterns “by ear,” along with the instructor and/or a recorded bell pattern.
