This ensemble explores the music born of, and influenced by the early African American music of the 1940s (Rhythm and Blues). We will compile our songbook with an emphasis on selecting music from both ends of the developmental spectrum, early classic Rhythm and Blues, and modern R&B. We will strive to understand, through a performance setting, how the musical elements which helped create this genre have evolved and grown to be an essential part of contemporary music making in the United States and around the world.
Prerequisite: MUS115 Contemporary Music Literature and/or pass audition.
