Transfer Policy: https://www.ipr.edu/tuition/transfer-credits

TRANSFER OF CREDITS

Credits for successfully completed courses at other institutions accredited by agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education may be transferred upon the approval of the designated school official. In order to determine transfer of credit, a student must submit official transcripts from any previous school attended.

Official transcripts should be submitted prior to a student’s first day of classes. The transcript evaluation process begins as official transcripts are received. In the event that a transcript is not received in a timely manner the transcript evaluation may not be complete prior to attendance in the first quarter of classes. Students should plan accordingly. The following conditions apply:

  1. All transferable credits must have earned a grade of C-/P or better and be at the college level of 100 or above.
  2. A maximum of 75 percent of total program credits may be transferred in for a degree program. Transfer credit includes credits from other institutions, credit awarded for work experience, and credit earned through competency examinations.
  3. IPR awards quarter credits. In considering transfer courses, a semester credit is equivalent to 1.5 quarter credits.
  4. Only those courses that are applicable to a student’s chosen degree will be considered for transfer.
  5. A course approved for transfer must be comparable in nature, content, and level and must meet the same basic educational objectives as an equivalent IPR course.
  6. Transfer credits do not affect a student’s grade point average (GPA). Courses transferred in will be recorded on the IPR transcript as TR.

Credits obtained at IPR are not universally transferable to other schools, and acceptance is always up to the receiving institution. A student who hopes to transfer IPR credits to another school is advised to check with that school in advance.

IPR currently accepts Advanced Placement (AP) test scores of 3 or higher as transferable in appropriate courses. These AP scores are usually found on the High School Transcript.

Send official transcripts to:

The Institute of Production and Recording
Office of Registrar
300 1st Avenue North, Suite 100 Minneapolis, MN 55401

CREDIT EARNED IN FOREIGN INSTITUTIONS

A student with a degree, certificate, or college-level credits from a non- U.S. institution of higher education shall have those credits evaluated at the student’s expense by an evaluator approved by IPR. When this process is completed the student must provide an official transcript in the original language, a college catalog, and the translated transcript and course descriptions to IPR.

Please describe your transfer admission requirements, review process, and timeline, including incentives for MSCM students.

Waived application fee.

We will work to review transfer credits within a week of application. However, IPR is currently mapping McNally curriculum to ours to expedite this process. We are working on a 24-48 hour turnaround.

Please provide information about your financial aid offerings, including any incentives to MSCM students (ex: guarantee that out-of-pocket expenses will not exceed current same expenses at MSCM).
Each student will be given a financial aid award based on their need and eligibility. We work to maximize options for students to make our education affordable.

https://www.ipr.edu/tuition/financial-aid

We offer a variety of scholarships including a student engagement scholarship for incoming students for up to $1500.

Please describe available housing options.
IPR does not offer on campus housing, but provides housing resources for students as well as assistance in finding housing/roommates.

Please indicate the best way for interested students to begin the process of transferring to your institution?

Are you willing to accept credits from McNally Smith students, accredited by NASM (National Association of Schools of Music)?
Yes

If so, please outline your credit transfer process including any exceptions, guarantees, limits, etc.
St. Cloud State accepts credits from courses and programs like those it offers. Acceptance criteria include similarity in course goals, content and level. The receiving college or university decides which credits transfer and whether the credits meet degree requirements. Accreditation of your sending and your receiving institutions can affect credit transfer.

Bachelor’s degree programs usually count credits in three categories: general education, major/minor courses and prerequisites, and electives.

* Incoming Transfer students should be aware that to be eligible for graduation under a four-year curriculum a student must have taken classes at St. Cloud State University at least 2 semesters and must have earned at least 30 semester credits from SCSU.

Transfer credit will not be granted for non-college level courses. St. Cloud State reserves the right to deny credits which are:

  • not consistent with the mission and charter of the granting institution, or
  • not approved for transfer based on evaluation by the University.

Final authority regarding course work pertaining to major programs rests with individual academic departments, subject to approval by the Office of Academic Affairs.

Successful admission to an applied studio is required in order to continue as a Music Major.

**Please note that the Transferology online tool may not indicate many courses that transfer. This is because Transferology does not have full course schedules for all incoming schools built in to the program yet. Contact the Department of Music directly in order to learn which courses may transfer**

Please describe your transfer admission requirements, review process, and timeline, including incentives for MSCM students.
McNally Smith students may use the code MSCM18 when applying to have the application fee waived! We offer rolling admission and it is not too late to apply for classes beginning January 8th. Auditions for applied studio and ensemble placement will take place prior to and including the first week of classes.

All transfer students must complete 2 semesters of applied lessons and ensemble, and successful admission to an applied studio is required in order to continue as a Music Major.

Approval of transfer courses will take less than two weeks following your admission – be sure to see the Music Department in order to facilitate this process. In your advising meeting with the Department, you will receive an academic plan that will outline the courses remaining in order to graduate.

You can speed the transfer process by having additional documentation of the curriculum of your courses, including syllabi, sample assignments, course outline, etc.

Please see the following link for more information:
https://www.stcloudstate.edu/transfer/transferring-credits/course-review.aspx

Please provide information about your financial aid offerings, including any incentives to MSCM students (ex: guarantee that out-of-pocket expenses will not exceed current same expenses at MSCM).
Our tuition, fees, and estimated full costs are summarized at the following link:
https://www.stcloudstate.edu/scsu4u/financing/default.aspx

The estimated full cost for a year, including books, housing, food, and tuition is less than $18,000 for a Minnesota resident, and $26,000 for a non-resident (although we have lower tuition for residents of most surrounding states).

St. Cloud State has recently converted to banded tuition, which means that you pay the same price for credits between 12 and 18. That means that you pay the same price for 12 credits even if you take 18.

The only additional fees for music courses are applied lesson fees, which are $250 for 1 credit, $375 for 2 credits, and $500 for 3 credit lessons. We also offer selected instrument rentals, for $60 a semester.

Please describe available housing options.

Are you willing to accept credits from McNally Smith students, accredited by NASM (National Association of Schools of Music)?

The best first step might be to contact our UWO transfer coordinator:

Anne Duchek, Transfer Center Coordinator
(920) 410-3078
ducheka@uwosh.edu

Here is a link to our transfer procedures: https://admissions.uwosh.edu/how-to-apply/transfer/transfer-application-procedures/

The following principles of accommodation apply to all transfer students:

1. UWO will apply transfer credits to degree requirements where appropriate.

2. UWO will recognize general education/liberal arts requirements in terms of broad academic areas (social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, etc.) as well as specific courses.

3. UWO may award transfer credit for courses for which they do no have a comparable department or curricular area, or for which we do not have direct course equivalent. Where appropriate, these credits should apply toward satisfying general education and other degree requirements. When applying a course toward general education/breadth requirements, UWO generally applies it in the same category as similar courses at that institution. However, if the course fulfills a different category at McNally Smith and the student requests that the original designation be applied, the request should be approved where appropriate.

4. In granting a direct equivalent to courses taken at McNally Smith, the attributes of the equivalent course should apply. However, in determining whether to award upper level credit for courses completed by transfer students, UWO may apply the same practice used for their own freshmen and sophomores.

5. Student course grades may be used as a factor to determine if, and how, transfer credit is applied.

6. If a student changes his/her academic major or program, all transfer credits may be reevaluated to determine if, and how, they apply to the new major or program.

7. All students will receive an evaluation of transfer credits. UWO will make every effort to provide this evaluation prior to enrollment. When a student transfers, UWO will do its own evaluation of the transfer work based on official transcript(s). The student is responsible for submitting official transcript(s) for transfer evaluation. Transfer credits that have been awarded should be evaluated to determine which will apply to major requirements, general education/breadth requirements, competency requirements, or the graduation requirements of the specific program the student intends to pursue. Credits which are not applicable to the requirements of the specific program will be noted on an official campus document.

8. UWO should make every effort to provide admitted transfer students the opportunity to register with similar access to courses as continuing students.

Students will be informed in writing of the opportunity and procedures for appealing any course transfer determination.

Please describe your transfer admission requirements, review process, and timeline, including incentives for MSCM students.
Students will need to audition to be accepted to our music degree programs. We are able to accept these auditions via skype or video. Our audition guidelines are on our website and can be found here: https://www.uwosh.edu/music/audition-information

Please provide information about your financial aid offerings, including any incentives to MSCM students (ex: guarantee that out-of-pocket expenses will not exceed current same expenses at MSCM).
Students can apply for financial aid and calculate net costs by going to this link: https://financialaid.uwosh.edu/

Students who qualify are able to receive the Titan National Scholar title, an award that guarantees in-state tuition costs for out-of-state students. Titan National Scholars are an exclusive group of nonresident students who receive an impressive academic scholarship, whether they begin their academic journey at UW Oshkosh as freshmen or transfer students. This scholarship brings the cost of tuition for non-resident students down to that of Wisconsin’s low-cost in-state tuition.

https://financialaid.uwosh.edu/titan-national-scholar-program/

UWO also offers many scholarships. Some of these are available to qualified applicants upon admission, and there are also many that are available to continuing students. Scholarships can be viewed at Academic Works: https://www.uwosh.edu/foundation/apply-for-scholarships

Please describe available housing options.
We have many on-campus and off-campus housing options. Our residence life division can answer your questions: https://www.housing.uwosh.edu/students/my-housing/

Please indicate the best way for interested students to begin the process of transferring to your institution?
The best way to begin this process is to apply on line via our website. Music students must submit two (2) applications – one to the department of music, and also a general application to the University. Music Application: https://www.uwosh.edu/music/audition-information/audition-application

(Please note that this application requires a choice of dates for on-campus auditions. These dates are waived for MSCM students who wish to submit a video or play a skype audition. Please contact Ashley Elmer to arrange an individual audition: elmera@uwosh.edu)

From the Ottawa University Transfer Policy and Accreditation page:

Ottawa University values a student’s previous coursework and is concerned that no student be penalized in the process of transferring. Students must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended to the University Registrar. Courses completed successfully at regionally accredited institutions of higher education are accepted at face value. Courses completed successfully at other specific institutions with CHEA-recognition are also accepted at face value. A maximum of 80 credit hours of lower division credit is accepted in transfer towards a bachelor’s degree. Credit is not accepted for credit by assessment from another institution. Exceptions to accepted accreditations are covered through corresponding articulation agreements. Coursework is transferred as if it had been taken at Ottawa University. Semester credit hours are given for all passing grades, including D’s. Although accepted in transfer, not all courses with D’s fulfill specific degree requirements. Semester credit hours are not transferred for participation in varsity sports, remedial, or developmental courses. A maximum of four credits is accepted towards graduation requirements for courses deemed as skillbuilding (typing, word processing) or activity areas (softball, tennis, band, dance, etc.).

As we understand this is an extremely time sensitive matter, Ottawa will be bringing a member of our Registrar’s office to the fair to review transcripts in real time and determine transfer opportunities.

Please describe your transfer admission requirements, review process, and timeline, including incentives for MSCM students.
